Our story
Thools is not just a brand. It is a living memory. A heritage of aromas, gestures, and traditions passed down at the heart of our family for generations.
In Sri Lanka, cuisine is not just a moment of sharing. It is a sacred ritual, a language of love. It is in the warmth of this family home, filled with the laughter of children, the stories of elders, and the crackling of seeds in the pan, that our artisanal curry blend was born.
Our grandmother, a maternal figure with a tender smile and a sharp palate, passed down her recipes not through books, but through the senses: a pinch here, a scent there, a story whispered over a still-warm mortar.
Coming from a sibling group of 10 children, our family was deeply affected by exile when the civil war broke out in the 80s. Under the benevolent guidance of our ancestor, some left the island for Europe or Canada. But wherever they went, they carried within them an unalterable wealth: taste, transmission, and this respect for spices as a noble material.
Years later, upon returning to Sri Lanka, it is not just a know-how that we rediscovered, it is a belonging.
Sitting alongside the farmers, hands imbued with golden powder, we rediscovered roasting as an art. Each family has its signature, each region its symphony. In Jaffna, the fire of red chili dominates. In Batticaloa, the deep notes of turmeric and curry leaves cradle the taste buds.
At Thools, no blend is generic. Each creation is a handcrafted work, roasted by hand, conceived with rigor and intuition. Our spices come from a short circuit, directly from families and local farmers, respecting the seasons, the soils, and above all, the traditions.
Today, our mission is simple yet ambitious:
to offer the world exceptional spices, carrying history, culture, and a sincere luxury, that of truth, mother earth, and sacred time.
